The Qu'ran

The Qu'ran (القرآن) is the record of the words spoken to Muhammed by Allah.
  • It is divided into sections called the surahs.
  • For a long time the Qu'ran was recited orally and wasn't written until after Muhammed's death.

Many great posts here, but again, I don't see any citations.

Given that Islam is derived from the ancient Jewish religion, does anyone know if Muslims take any of the Jewish scriptures as holy? Christianity uses the Old Testament, so I'm curious whether Islam does something similar.

I never knew that the Qu'ran was just spoken orally. I think that's really interesting that they just spoke it and never wrote it down until Muhammed's death.

Muslims do read and believe in the Old Testament, but they believe the Koran is the final word.
